what's on your hoop?

Saturday, January 31, 2009

i have 2 hoops on the go, i never thought i'd be able to say that but it's true, i'm becoming a hand stitchaholic!! so, on hoop 1 we have the ever gorgeous first block for the "breast friends" quilt as seen in homespun magazine, i was really worried about it when i first started to tackle it but wow, it's so much more relaxing now i've got it on my hoop!

on hoop 2 i've got my first ever hand quilting project!! it's a bit of a secret project so i can only share a snippet here and there of it ;) just to make life interesting, i decided against doing an easy straight line stitch, i went for curvey lines, what was i thinking?!

and while this isn't a hoop or a quilt ooooor a stitchery, the rack is hoop shaped and the biccies are just as yummy as the yummiest quilt and stitchery ;) we made these this morning, peanut butter & mm's biccies .. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ..

well here he is, Nuff Nuff mark II .. the original nuff nuff lost his stuff stuff so i upgraded from crap felt to 100% wool felt and the difference is huge!

i just LOVE the colours of this felt, all muted and very country feeling, he has been tweaked but needs more tweaking before i think he'll be 100% ready for rough housing ;)

scrummy mail

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

when vicki, barb and i were first talking about the breast of friends qult i had a gander on ebay for some "in the pink II" fabrics (from which the quilt is made) and was lucky enough to find this scrummy bargain of 8 FQs and pattern which arrived today! as much as i love these, i think i like the teal/crimson quilt i'm going for.

and here are my final choices for blocks 1 & 2, 14 yummy FQs all ready to be cut and patched :D you'll notice that i did take 1 FQ from "in the pink II" and whacked it in here, i don't like odd numbers and i only had 13 FQs .. now i have 14 :D

swaps and projects

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

so a few friends and i have decided to do the "breast of friends" (this is a BoM which is being featured in homspun magazine from v10 #1 - v10 #8) quilt together, setting a dead line of feb 15th for the first 2 blocks .. ARGH!! originally i wanted to do the quilt in all the same fabrics as the ones chosen by the designers but i must admit, i couldn't walk past some of the fabric from the above picture, 5 of the 8 FQ came from my local shop (canningtown patchwork) and the other 3 from my stash. i'm not partial to the stars, but the quilt does require A LOT of different fabrics so i figure, what the hey, just use the ones i don't like as much in smaller ways, bound to work .. right?! i think the end result will be a quilt full of rich warm colours topped off with a huge dollop of love and friendship, what more can a gal ask for?!

i'm a terribly shopper, i should never be let loose anywhere within a cooee of a fabric store with any form of money over $4 (can't even get a FQ for that anymore *sniff*) because i'm a shocking impulse buyer! i can be really strict and stick to a budget everywhere else bar a fabric store .. so what did my little piggy mitts latch onto today? some GORGEOUS wool felt!! there are 3 more colours I MUST HAVE so i will venture back and snavle them VERY soon ;) my plans for the current lot? a new and improved nuff nuff .. poor little nuff nuff lost his stuff stuff and can't be repaired, so, i will make a whole new one .. yummy!

after the excitement of the fabric fondle and high of the wooly stuff i was left dazed and easily cajoled into joining a new bloggy swap (tsk tsk barb :P) the swap is called "Winter Basics and Baubles Swap" and OMG *freaks out* i didn't book mark the blog!!!!

BAAAAAAAAAAAARB .. *squeak* help!

i shall be back tomorrow to list it's little pic thingy and an address for it .. it seems a gal can only fondle and inhale so much in a day!

sshh .. it's my secret project ..

so this is the second BOM i'm doing at the moment, for those who don't recognise it, it's Butterfly Garden and this is my secret project for my just turned 8yo girl, by the time it's done and quilted it'll be xmas so it's a perfect year long project. i did up the block today while the other half took the older kids to the movies and i was home with the younger lot who played nicely and left me alone *gasp*

so tonight, once the house was quiet i tackled the putting on of the butterfly and flowers, and what a difference it makes!! tomorrow i'll add the rest of the stitchery and go buy threads to match and bam, i'm off and running! i have block 2 waiting to be sewn up and i can't wait to get cracking with it!

aaww *sniff sniff*

I can't believe i got an award, especially for being a Kreativ Blogger .. i think "Slackest Blogger" would be more apt these days *giggle* I am truly honored though and a huge thank you to Clare for thinking of me, i feel all gooey inside now!

so .. 5 unsuspecting bloggers to pass this onto .. wow .. i'll have to think about this, i love watching other peoples blogs and them getting their awards etc, never thought it would be me!

*struts around like a proud pidgeon!*

ok .. so i've had a think and here goes ..

Sam aka MissyMack - fantastically creative!

Barb - aka the chippy monster! truly the best "big sister" a girl could have!

Tozz - aka Vickster, inspiration doesn't come any sweeter!

A Spoonful of Sugar - always creative and fun, love love love this blog!

Whimsy Love - whimiscal, comical, fantastical!

sunshine & frolics

don't look too closely, you'll see just how terribly my sewing really is ;)

this is block 2 from the "sunshine and frolics" BOM (block of the month), i decided to piece it altogether today and do the stitching when my thread pack arrives. so far, i'm really happy with how this is turning out, the blocks are massive!

this is block 9 from the same BOM, i really enjoyed making this one, this was the first block i received as they didn't have block 1 in stock and honestly, i don't care what order i do them in as in the end, they all get sewn together in order :D
i've only got a little bit of stitching to do on this one, again, waiting for my thread pack and then i can finish it. so far i've done a couple of things different but nothing that stands out or detracts from it.

i can't wait to see this one completed!
